At TCC, we believe that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to succeed in their educational journey. That's why we are committed to providing a range of services and accommodations for students with disabilities. In this section, you'll find real-life examples of the support we offer, ensuring that every student can thrive and excel in their studies.

Alternative Format Books

Alternate format books include instructional materials, textbooks, and other reading materials presented in formats accessible to individuals with disabilities. Examples of alternate format books include audiobooks and books in PDF formats. Students requesting alternative format books should contact Accessibility Resources prior to the start of a semester.

Assistive Technology and Training

Assistive technology refers to software or various tools that help people who have difficulty speaking, typing, writing, hearing, or seeing. Examples of assistive technology include Assistive Listening Devices, Dragon Naturally Speaking, and screen readers, among others. Individual assistance or training on assistive technology is available by appointment only.

Reduced-Distraction and/or Extended Exam Time

Instructor exams, as well as the Accuplacer, are administered in different reduced-distraction environments located at the Accessibility Resources TCC campus. Depending on the nature of the disability, students can test for a longer period of time. All exams are administered by appointment only.

Reading and Scribing

Accessibility Resources staff members are qualified to read an exam to a student and/or write their answers based on professional documentation. Readers and scribes are available as needed for exams by appointment, and they are not responsible for ensuring proper grammar and punctuation.

Special Seating

Reserved seating, adjustable desks, and/or chairs are available for students registered with Accessibility Resources based on the student's disability. Special seating can be placed in different locations of a classroom, e.g., the front row or center, depending on the need. Special seating is also arranged through Accessibility Resources for any TCC event.

Note-taker

A note-taker is a qualified individual whose job is to take notes for students who, due to their disability, find it difficult to take notes for themselves. Accessibility Resources provides note-taking paper and assistance with the recruitment of note-takers in the classroom. Students who would like to record class lectures may check out a digital recorder from the appropriate Accessibility Resources counselor.

Interpreting Services

Sign language interpreters are available to deaf and hard-of-hearing students to facilitate communication in the classroom and other college activities.

Speech-to-Text Services

Speech-to-text services are provided to facilitate real-time access to students in the classroom and other college activities.

Assistive Listening Devices

For hard-of-hearing or late-deafened students, we have a number of assistive listening devices that may be checked out for use. Specialized stethoscopes can be checked out on a trial basis.

Tutoring Services for Students with Hearing Impairments

Open lab tutoring times are scheduled by the Accessibility Resources office at the Northeast campus each semester. Students may also request individual tutoring through the Accessibility Resources office at the Northeast campus.

Assistive technology refers to software or various tools that help people who have difficulty speaking, typing, writing, hearing, or seeing. Examples of assistive technology include Assistive Listening Devices, Dragon Naturally Speaking, and screen readers, among others.

Eligible students may choose from one of the following notetaking services offered through the AR office:

  • Glean Notetaking App
  • Digital Recorder
  • Peer-to-Peer Notetaker

In the event a student is unable to use notetaking technology, the AR office and instructor will assist the student in selecting a peer to serve as a notetaker. A notetaker paper will be given to the AR student for the peer notetaker.

Tutoring services are free for all TCC students. Interpreting services are available to accommodate students who are deaf or hard of hearing who schedule tutoring appointments.

Please contact madyson.schmidt@tulsacc.edu to schedule an interpreter.
